Aerobic
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004220
Relating to an environment, organism, or process that requires the presence of free oxygen. In drilling fluids, aerobic bacteria can cause the degradation of organic additives like polymers and starches, leading to a loss of fluid properties such as viscosity. Biocides are added to drilling muds to control the growth of these microorganisms and prevent such degradation, particularly in water-based systems.
