Paraformaldehyde
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002697
A solid polymer of formaldehyde, used as a biocide in drilling fluids to inhibit bacterial growth. It slowly releases formaldehyde into the mud system, preventing the degradation of polymers and the production of corrosive hydrogen sulfide. This additive is particularly effective in water-based muds to maintain fluid integrity.
