Parallel fold
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002698
A fold in which the thickness of each bed, measured perpendicular to the bedding surfaces, remains constant throughout the fold structure. This style of folding indicates that deformation occurred primarily by bending and buckling of rock layers without extensive internal strain or flow within the individual beds. Parallel folds are common in sedimentary sequences where competent layers are interbedded with less competent ones.
