Bed thickness

The vertical dimension of a single sedimentary bed, measured perpendicular to its bedding planes. This parameter is a key characteristic in stratigraphic descriptions and reservoir modeling, influencing fluid flow and hydrocarbon recovery. Bed thickness can be measured directly from core samples or estimated from well logs.
