Tuning effect
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003952
The phenomenon where the apparent thickness of a thin bed, as observed on a seismic section, is distorted due to the interference of seismic reflections from its top and bottom boundaries. This occurs when the bed thickness is less than approximately one-quarter of the dominant seismic wavelength. Tuning can lead to amplitude anomalies that are not directly proportional to bed thickness.
