Cave effect
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000599
The distortion of logging tool measurements caused by an enlarged borehole section, or 'cave,' which can lead to inaccurate readings of formation properties. This effect is particularly noticeable in caliper, density, and neutron logs, where the tool may not be in proper contact with the formation wall. It necessitates corrections to the raw log data to obtain reliable petrophysical parameters.
