Rugose
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003211
Describing a borehole wall that is rough, irregular, or uneven, rather than smooth and cylindrical. This condition can be caused by drilling through fractured formations, washouts, or caving shales. A rugose borehole can adversely affect the quality and accuracy of wireline log measurements, particularly those that require good contact with the formation, such as density and caliper logs.
