Bad hole
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000254
A wellbore condition characterized by irregularities, such as washouts, caving, or rugosity, that can adversely affect the quality and accuracy of log measurements. These conditions can cause logging tools to lose contact with the formation or to measure an altered zone rather than the true formation. Compensations and corrections are often applied to mitigate the effects of a bad hole.
