Spiral borehole
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003546
A wellbore that deviates from a straight path in a helical or corkscrew pattern, rather than a smooth curve. This condition arises from an imbalance of forces on the drill bit and bottom hole assembly, leading to an unstable drilling trajectory. It can cause difficulties with logging tool passage, casing running, and overall well integrity.
