Dip correction
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001095
A calculation applied to well log data to convert measured, or apparent, formation bed thickness to true stratigraphic thickness. This adjustment accounts for the angle between the wellbore trajectory and the dipping formation layers, which causes logs to record a longer interval through a bed than its actual perpendicular thickness. The correction requires the relative dip angle, derived from dipmeter or image logs, and the wellbore's deviation and azimuth from survey data for accurate reserve calculations.
