True stratigraphic thickness

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004482

The perpendicular distance between the upper and lower bounding surfaces of a rock layer, measured normal to the bedding planes. This measurement represents the actual thickness of a stratigraphic unit, independent of the dip of the beds or the angle of a wellbore. It is calculated from apparent thickness measurements obtained from well logs or seismic data, using dip angles.
