Concentric fold
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000797
A type of fold in which the individual layers maintain a uniform thickness as they are bent, resulting in curved surfaces that share a common center of curvature. This geometry requires that space problems be accommodated, often by detachment along a basal layer or by developing voids in the core of the fold. True concentric, or parallel, folds are most common in sequences with strong contrasts in rock competence, such as interbedded sandstones and shales.
