Similar fold
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003417
A fold in which every folded surface has the same shape, so the thickness of a layer measured parallel to the axial surface stays constant while its thickness measured perpendicular to the layer is greater in the hinge than on the limbs. It corresponds to Ramsay class 2 and is typical of ductile, high-strain deformation such as flow folding. It contrasts with a parallel fold, in which thickness measured perpendicular to the layer stays constant.
