Silver nitrate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003416
A chemical compound, AgNO3, used in a titration method to determine the chloride ion concentration in a drilling fluid filtrate. The procedure involves adding a silver nitrate solution to a filtrate sample containing a potassium chromate indicator. The volume of titrant required to produce a permanent reddish-brown precipitate corresponds to the chloride content, which is expressed in milligrams per liter or parts per million.
