Parts per million

A unit of concentration representing one part of a substance per million parts of the total mixture, often used to express the concentration of dissolved solids or contaminants in drilling fluids. It is a dimensionless quantity, equivalent to milligrams per liter (mg/L) for aqueous solutions with a density close to that of water. For gases, it can refer to parts per million by volume (ppmv).
