Parallel resistivity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002699
The electrical resistivity of a layered formation measured with current flowing parallel to the bedding, also called horizontal resistivity. In a laminated sequence the layers conduct in parallel, so the conductivity is the thickness-weighted average of the layer conductivities and is dominated by the more conductive layers such as shale. It is lower than the perpendicular resistivity, where current crosses the layers in series, and the ratio of the two quantifies electrical anisotropy.
