  1. A measurable characteristic or property that defines a system, model, or process, often used as an input or output in calculations and analyses. In reservoir characterization, parameters include porosity, permeability, fluid viscosity, and rock compressibility. These values are estimated from well logs, core data, and seismic surveys to build reservoir models.

  2. Internal variables of a machine learning model that are learned from the training data during the learning process. These values define the model's specific function and are adjusted iteratively to minimize prediction errors. Examples include the weights and biases in a neural network, which determine the strength of connections between neurons.
