Electrical resistivity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001273
A fundamental electrical property of a material that quantifies how strongly it opposes the flow of electric current. In oil and gas exploration, it is a key parameter measured by well logging tools to identify hydrocarbon-bearing formations, as hydrocarbons are generally resistive while formation water is conductive. Resistivity is expressed in ohm-meters (Ω·m).
