Formation factor
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001536
The ratio of the resistivity of a water-saturated rock to the resistivity of the water itself, at the same temperature. This dimensionless parameter, denoted as F, is primarily dependent on the rock's porosity and tortuosity, and it is used in Archie's equation to calculate water saturation in hydrocarbon-bearing zones. It is a fundamental property for electrical log interpretation.
