Tortuosity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003871
A measure of the deviation of fluid flow paths from a straight line within a porous medium, such as a reservoir rock. It quantifies how convoluted the pore network is, affecting the resistance to fluid movement and electrical conductivity. Tortuosity is a dimensionless factor, typically greater than one, and influences permeability and formation resistivity factor calculations.
