Torque flowmeter
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003870
A downhole flowmeter that infers fluid velocity from the torque the flowing fluid exerts on a stationary impeller, rather than from the speed of a freely turning one. The measured torque is related to the effective fluid velocity across the impeller and is converted to a flow rate using the pipe area. It contrasts with the spinner flowmeter, whose impeller rotates and is read in revolutions per second.
