Electrical anisotropy
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001265
The condition where the electrical resistivity of a rock formation varies with the direction of measurement. This occurs in formations with layered structures, such as thinly bedded sands and shales, where current flows more easily parallel to bedding planes than perpendicular to them. Anisotropy can significantly affect the interpretation of resistivity logs, leading to errors in water saturation calculations if not accounted for.
