Aeolotropy
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000067
The property of a rock exhibiting different values for a physical property when measured in different directions; an alternative spelling for anisotropy. This directional dependence, seen in properties like permeability, seismic velocity, and electrical resistivity, results from oriented grains, microfractures, or fine-scale bedding. In contrast to isotropy, where properties are uniform, aeolotropy in shales causes resistivity measured parallel to bedding to be lower than resistivity measured perpendicular to it.
