Transverse isotropy
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003903
A type of seismic anisotropy where the elastic properties of a medium are the same in all directions within a plane, but different in the direction perpendicular to that plane. This often occurs in layered sedimentary rocks or shales due to the alignment of mineral grains or bedding planes. It affects the velocity and travel path of seismic waves, requiring specialized processing for accurate imaging.
