Syncline

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003736

A fold in rock layers where the strata dip inward toward a common axis, forming a trough-like structure. The youngest rocks are found in the core of the fold. While anticlines are more common hydrocarbon traps, synclines can sometimes trap gas if sealed by impermeable layers or faults.
