Anticlinal trap
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000143
A geological structure where hydrocarbons accumulate in the crest of an anticline, which is an upward-arching fold in rock layers. The impermeable cap rock overlying the porous reservoir rock prevents the upward migration of oil and gas, trapping them within the fold. This is one of the most common and productive types of structural traps for petroleum.
