Unconformity trap
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003975
A type of stratigraphic trap where hydrocarbons accumulate beneath an unconformity surface. This occurs when porous reservoir rocks are truncated by an erosional surface, which is then sealed by overlying impermeable strata. The sealing capacity of the overlying rock and the presence of a source rock below the unconformity are factors for hydrocarbon accumulation.
