Disconformity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001112
An unconformity where the sedimentary layers above and below the erosional surface are parallel. It represents a time gap in the geological record caused by a period of non-deposition or erosion, but without the tilting or folding of the older beds that characterizes an angular unconformity. These surfaces are often identified in seismic data or core by evidence of an erosion surface, such as a channel cut, or by paleontological analysis showing missing fossil zones between the parallel strata.
