Discontinuity

A break or interruption in the continuity of a geological formation or physical property within the Earth. This can manifest as a fault, unconformity, or a sudden change in rock type, density, or seismic velocity. Discontinuities often act as traps for hydrocarbons or as pathways for fluid migration in the subsurface.
