Drilling break
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001183
A sudden and noticeable increase in the rate of penetration (ROP) during drilling, indicating a change in the formation being drilled. This change often signals the entry into a new geological layer, such as a porous reservoir rock or a softer formation. Drilling breaks are closely monitored by geologists and drillers to identify target zones.
