First break
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004323
The initial arrival of seismic energy at a geophone or hydrophone, marking the earliest detectable seismic wave. This arrival typically corresponds to the P-wave (compressional wave) traveling along the shortest path from the source to the receiver. First break picks are used for shallow refraction analysis, static corrections, and quality control of seismic data.
