Arrival time

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000187

The elapsed time for a seismic wave to travel from its source to a specific geophone or hydrophone in a seismic array. This measurement, a primary piece of data recorded during a seismic survey, is used to determine the depth and structure of subsurface layers by picking reflections from geological interfaces on seismic traces. Arrival times are measured in milliseconds and form the basis for constructing velocity models and depth-migrated seismic sections.
