First arrival
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001427
The initial energy from a seismic source to reach a receiver, recorded as the onset of the seismic trace. This signal travels the fastest path, which could be a direct wave through the near-surface layer or a refracted wave along a deeper, higher-velocity interface. The travel times of these arrivals are inputs for refraction tomography to model the velocity structure of the weathered layer.
