Base of weathering
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000284
The boundary separating the near-surface, low-velocity weathered layer from the underlying, higher-velocity consolidated rock. This interface acts as a strong refractor of seismic energy and must be accounted for when calculating static corrections to align seismic data. The depth to this boundary is determined using refraction surveys or by analyzing first breaks on reflection records.
