Refractor

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003085

A subsurface geological layer or interface that causes seismic waves to refract, or bend, as they pass through it. This layer typically has a higher seismic velocity than the overlying material, causing waves to travel along its top surface before returning to the detectors. Refractors are identified in seismic refraction surveys to map shallow velocity variations and bedrock depth.
