Minimum-time path
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002384
The trajectory that a seismic wave follows between a source and a receiver, such that its travel time is the shortest possible. This concept is governed by Fermat's Principle, which states that waves travel along paths of stationary time. In seismic ray tracing, the minimum-time path is calculated to model wave propagation and to perform traveltime inversions for velocity structures.
