Raypath

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004434

The trajectory that seismic energy follows from a source to a receiver, passing through the subsurface. In high-frequency approximations, this path is perpendicular to the propagating wavefront and its geometry is governed by Snell's law at interfaces between different rock layers. Ray tracing models these paths to understand travel times, predict reflection points, and perform seismic migration and inversion.
