Snell's law
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003477
A physical principle that describes how a wave's path bends as it passes from one medium into another with a different velocity. The law relates the angles of incidence and refraction to the ratio of the wave velocities in the two media. In seismic exploration, it governs how acoustic energy is reflected and refracted at boundaries between rock layers, forming the basis for seismic imaging and velocity analysis.
