Wave equation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004118
A mathematical relationship that describes the propagation of waves through a medium as a function of space and time. In geophysics, it models how seismic waves travel through the Earth's subsurface, accounting for variations in velocity and density. Solutions to the wave equation are the basis for seismic migration algorithms that reposition recorded data to create an accurate image of the subsurface.
