Wave equation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010145

A linear second-order partial differential equation that describes the propagation of a variety of waves, such as sound waves, light waves, and water waves. In atmospheric science, it is used to model the behavior of atmospheric waves, including acoustic waves and gravity waves. Solutions to the wave equation provide insights into wave speed, amplitude, and phase.
