Telegraphic equation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009515

A second-order hyperbolic partial differential equation that models both wave propagation and diffusion, combining terms from both the wave equation and the diffusion equation. It describes phenomena where a signal or quantity propagates at a finite speed while also dissipating. In atmospheric science, the equation is applied in advanced models of turbulent transport and radiative transfer, providing a more physically realistic description of particle or energy dispersion than the standard diffusion equation.
