Poisson equation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008009
A second-order partial differential equation that describes the relationship between a scalar potential field and its source distribution. In meteorology, it is frequently used to diagnose the geopotential height field from a given mass distribution or to solve for the stream function in incompressible flow. The equation is a fundamental tool in numerical weather prediction models.
