Linearized differential equation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006988
A differential equation derived by approximating a nonlinear system with a linear one, usually by assuming small perturbations from a mean or equilibrium state. This process involves expanding nonlinear terms in a Taylor series and retaining only the first-order terms. Such equations are widely used in atmospheric science to analyze the stability of flows, the propagation of waves, and the initial growth of disturbances.
