Tangent linear equation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009496

A linearized version of a set of nonlinear prognostic equations, derived by taking the first-order Taylor expansion around a reference state. These equations describe the evolution of small perturbations to the system's state variables. They are widely used in numerical weather prediction and climate modeling for adjoint calculations and ensemble forecasting.
