Prognostic equation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008176
A mathematical equation that specifies the future state of a system or a variable based on its current state. In numerical weather prediction, these equations calculate the time rate of change of atmospheric variables like temperature, pressure, and wind. For example, the thermodynamic energy equation is a prognostic equation used to forecast the future temperature field.
