Diagnostic equation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004970
A mathematical equation in atmospheric science that relates different atmospheric variables at a specific instant in time, rather than describing their evolution over time. These equations are used to infer certain atmospheric properties from known or observed values of other properties. An example is the balance equation, which relates the geopotential height field to the wind field.
