Omega equation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007683
A diagnostic equation in meteorology that relates vertical motion (omega, or pressure velocity) to atmospheric forcing mechanisms, such as differential vorticity advection and differential thermal advection. It is derived from the thermodynamic and vorticity equations and is used to infer areas of ascent and descent in the atmosphere. Positive omega indicates downward motion, while negative omega indicates upward motion.
