Omega sun
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007684
A sunrise or sunset appearance in which a mirage distorts the Sun's lower edge so that the outline resembles the Greek letter omega, with the disk joined to a flattened base. It results from refraction in a shallow layer of air near the horizon with a strong vertical temperature gradient, and it is classed as an inferior mirage.
