Energy equation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005375

A mathematical expression representing the first law of thermodynamics as applied to the atmosphere, describing the conservation of energy. It accounts for changes in the internal energy of an air parcel due to heating from diabatic processes and work done by or on the parcel from adiabatic processes. This equation is one of the primitive equations used in numerical weather prediction models to forecast temperature changes.
