Energy grade line

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010492

A graphical representation of the total energy head in a fluid flow system, plotted along the path of the flow. The line's height at any point is the sum of the elevation head, pressure head, and velocity head. In atmospheric dynamics, this concept from fluid mechanics is analogous to the conservation of total energy (potential, pressure, and kinetic) along a streamline in steady, inviscid flow, as described by Bernoulli's principle.
